Sheddington Chair Dr Mark Aston and TV presenter Patron James May

We’re proud to share that Sheddington has been featured in a recent article by local news site Teddington Town, celebrating the energy, growth, and sense of purpose behind our community workshop.

The piece, titled “Teddington’s Own Community Workshop Is Booming”, was written by Stuart Higgins and published on 18th July 2025. You can read the full article here: https://teddingtontown.co.uk/2025/07/18/teddingtons-own-community-workshop-is-booming

Set in our much-loved refurbished wooden scout hut near St Mark’s Church, the article captures the essence of Sheddington as “a labyrinth of workshops and an Aladdin’s Cave of tools” – a place where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to learn, mend, make, and connect.

With insight from our team and members, the article reflects on the deeper value of what happens here. As our secretary Bruce says:

“We are a shed, but we are not a men’s shed.”

Sheddington is proudly open to everyone – women and men, older and younger people, experienced makers and complete beginners alike. The workshop offers opportunities to explore carpentry, welding, electrical repair, and more – always guided by our founding ethos: Meeting, Making, Mending.

We’re especially honoured that the article includes words from our patron, TV presenter James May, who describes the workshop as “good for mending the soul” – something we’ve seen time and time again in the friendships, creativity, and renewed confidence sparked here.

The feature also shines a light on our growing community garden, the well-equipped social space with a fitted kitchen, and our need for new volunteers to help with sessions, repairs, and day-to-day running.

We’re so pleased that Stuart Higgins and Teddington Town have helped spread the word about Sheddington’s mission – to create a welcoming, sustainable, and creative space for everyone.
